Snow Removal Procedures
The Town of Eaton public works department is ready with a
snow control plan to keep streets safe and accessible during periods of snow and
ice. The goal is to provide snow and ice control services on Primary and
Secondary Routes. Residential streets are usually plowed only after severe
winter storms. When snowstorms leave large accumulations that are expected to
remain for several days, plows go onto residential streets after completing
service on Primary and Secondary Routes. When residential streets are plowed
the snow will be plowed to the center of the street to avoid covering sidewalks
and driveways and to allow for parked cars on the streets.
Sidewalks: By town ordinance, property owners are
responsible for clearing their sidewalks of snow within 24 hours following each
snowstorm. A citation and/or fine may be issued if the property owner fails to
comply. Snow should not be shoveled or plowed into the streets.
Street Snow Removal Priorities:
- Primary routes as identified on the map will be plowed
first. Snow removal will be concentrated on these routes throughout the storm
- Secondary routes will be plowed after all primary routes
are done. Secondary routes will be opened as soon as possible after the
Primaries
- A sand and salt mixture will be spread on all controlled
intersections including residential intersections in order to make driving
conditions as safe as possible.
- Residential streets are not plowed except after very
severe winter storms. When snowstorms leave an accumulation of 12 inches or
more of snow and the snow is expected to remain for several days, snow will be
plowed to the center of residential streets to allow for safe access for
residents.
- Town maintenance crews will not remove snow from any
private property. This includes private driveways, sidewalks and parking
lots.
- Private property owners and anyone working for private
owners may not push, throw or pile snow in public streets, sidewalks, alleys
or rights-of-way.
