If you've driven on 10th Street, Christensen Avenue, or Cheyenne Avenue/CR 39 lately, you already know what I'm about to say: these roads need work, and they need it now.
This November, you'll get to decide whether Eaton moves forward with a $5 million Transportation Sales Tax Bond that would let us rebuild all three of these roads in 2027. It’s important to note that this isn't a new tax, and it doesn't raise any existing taxes. We'd simply be borrowing against the 1% transportation sales tax you already approved back in 2023, and repaying it over 20 years at a fixed cost of about $380,000 a year, while still keeping roughly $470,000 a year set aside for regular road maintenance.
If we don't do the bond now, we can still fix these roads, but not all at once. 10th Street could move forward in 2027, but Christensen Avenue/CR 39 wouldn't be rebuilt until around 2033. Additionally, Cheyenne Avenue would have to wait until roughly 2039. That's a long time to live with roads that are already among the most complained-about in town.
I know that decisions like this affect everyone differently, and the Town Board and I want to hear from you directly. Please join us at one of three identical community meetings on the following dates:
